Eric Mann is a self-taught painter focusing on abstract expressionism in oil and acrylic mediums. Inspired by his decade of cooking professionally, Eric uses repetitive motion to yield an unknown final result. While the broad sense and scope of each piece is thoroughly planned and implemented, there is an inherent element of randomness to each line or square and therefore each piece as a whole. Wielding gesture, form, and color, he explores the inherent uncertainty of life and how that collides with intent, ultimately surrendering control of what exactly the piece will look like.

Eric was born in Rochester, New York. After he found a passion in cooking at an early age, he attended The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park. Enthralled by weekend trips to NYC, he moved there upon graduation and cooked professionally for 10 years before switching to the service side of the restaurant industry to be able to pursue other interests in his life.

He continues to explore color and form and shape through the use of both oil and acrylic paint — utilizing their respective properties to inform the gestures and paintings produced — as he builds his body of work.
